During our first floor renovation Studio B Dance Company has offered to host our story times! They are at 318 First Street in Liverpool, around the corner from the library. Wear comfortable socks as the dance studio is a no-shoe zone. Their parking is limited--please park at the library if possible. Songs, stories and rhymes for children ages 2 to 5 years with caregivers. Stay and play after story time with your Sing Along friends. Blocks, puzzles, puppets and other toys available. Siblings are welcome to attend. ALA's Every Child Ready To Read Early Literacy Skills (Read, Write, Sing, Play, Talk) are promoted in every Sing Along Friends Storytime.

American Creed: Community Conversations - Immigration Past & Present

Summary:
Liverpool Village Historian, Dorianne Gutierrez will take us on a journey to the past looking at who immigrated to Liverpool and why. Stories from days gone by and historical data will show what countries settlers arrived from and how various immigrant groups were vital to the settling and development of Liverpool. Discover who worked in the Salt industry, the Willow Basket industry or along the Erie Canal. Following Dorianne's presentation, Daryl Files of the Interfaith Works of CNY will discuss current immigration in Syracuse as well as the process of immigrating to the United States which can take several years to complete. She will talk about how Interfaith Works of CNY assists the large immigrant and refugee population. This program is a "American Creed: Community Conversations" program which invites audiences to consider what America's ideals and identity ought to be. Look for additional programs under the American Creed: Community Conversations title. American Creed: Community Conversations is made possible by a grant from the American Library Association (ALA) in partnership with Citizen Film and the National Writing Project. Liverpool Public Library is one of 50 libraries nationwide selected as a grant recipient.

Visit Syracuse and CNY Fresh's Elizabeth Judge, will talk about all the endless selection of products grown, raised and produced locally and the locations that YOU can visit to find these products including dairy, maple, livestock, produce, honey, wine, farm-to-table restaurants and more! She will be joined by farmer, Erin Hull from Lucky 13 Beef and others who will talk about their personal experiences and dedication to this mission. Additionally, Theresa Evans from OCCRA will talk about what all of us can do to participate in sustainable practices. Tree City USA Walk About

Summary:
In 2018, the Village of Liverpool was designated as a Tree City USA. Liverpool Tree City USA committee members will talk about what it means to receive the designation and their ongoing work. Lisa Ballantyne will then lead us on a walk to look at and talk about the ten trees planted by the committee in Washington and Johnson Parks, and at the Gleason Mansion. We will also stop at the trees located in Johnson Park that represent the six Haudenosaunee nations and at any noteworthy trees along the way. The Tree City USA program has been greening up cities and towns across America since 1976. It is a nationwide movement that provides the framework necessary for communities to manage and expand their public trees.

Village Tree Walk

Summary:
Lisa Ballantyne, horticulturist and member of The Village Tree Committee, will lead us on a walk to look at and talk about trees that were planted in Washington Park, Johnson Park and at the Gleason Mansion/ Willow Museum in 2018. The trees were provided through a grant for municipal plantings. We will also look at several interesting trees located in the library's Dinosaur Garden. The committee is working to have Liverpool become designated as Tree City USA. The Tree City USA program has been greening up cities and towns across America since 1976. It is a nationwide movement that provides the framework necessary for communities to manage and expand their public trees. Members from the Village Tree Committee (AKA "Tree Buds") will talk about their efforts prior to the walk. Meet in the lobby-we will be going outdoors immediately, rain or shine.
